Hours after Google’s removal from the Play Store, Paytm has been restored for downloads on the Android platform.

“While it is clear that all activities on Paytm are completely legal, we have temporarily removed the refund component in an effort to comply with Play Store policy requirements,” said a Paytm blog post announcing the return of the application.

Paytm First Games is not yet available on the Play Store.

Earlier today, Paytm was removed from Google Play. The app was removed due to the addition of the fantasy cricket tournament that the company recently included, which violates Google Play policies, the search giant confirmed.

The Paytm app for iOS is still available to download through the Apple App Store. In addition to the Paytm app, Google Play has retired the Paytm First Games app which also included the same fantasy cricket features with real money gambling.

“We do not allow online casinos or support unregulated gambling applications that facilitate sports betting. This includes that if an application takes consumers to an external website that allows them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money or prizes in cash, it’s a violation of our policies, “Google said on its blog as the reason for removing the apps. .

Although the post mentions its strict gambling and online gaming policies which could be the reason for the removal of the Paytm First Games app, it does not explicitly explain why the payments app was removed.

“The Paytm application for Android is temporarily unavailable on the Google Play Store for new downloads or updates. It will be back very soon. All your money is completely safe and you can continue to enjoy your Paytm application as normal,” Paytm said in a tweet.

Paytm First Games, a fantasy gaming platform for sports like cricket, soccer, basketball and Kabaddi, had recently hired Sachin Tendulkar as their brand ambassador. Earlier this week, the company said its goal is to reach 100 million users in the upcoming T20 league and has a plan to invest Rs 300 million in branding and marketing this year.

This is not the first time that Google has removed an app for violating its policies. In May, the digital payment app MobiKwik was removed from the Google Play Store for violation of Google’s ad policy.

This is a story in development and will be updated as additional information becomes available.
